EN71-3 certificates
If you’re using yarn to make toys with the intention of selling them, you’ll need to make sure they’re tested appropriately to be compliant with the law.
Part of that is ensuring that the yarn you’re using is made from safe materials. This includes ensuring the yarn you’re using holds a valid EN71-3 certificate. This certificate confirms that the yarn meets European standard for the migration of certain elements, such as heavy metals like lead, cadmium, and mercury. Having a EN71-3 certificate shows that should a child ever swallow a part of a toy you make, the amounts of these harmful substances that may be absorbed is below the legally allowed limits. This is a crucial step for getting your toys UKCA marked prior to sale.
